 special AWard WINNER 2019

ICKNIELD PORT LOOP, BIRMINGHAM - PUBLIC OPEN SPACE

This former site of warehouses and factories in Birmingham where the Birmingham Canal loops has been transformed into an attractive community park by the contractor, who was responsible for the scheme’s design and construction. The project included substantial earthworks and drainage schemes, the planting of landmark trees at entrances to the park to provide structure for the long term, understorey grasses and herbaceous species providing year-round interest, and light foliage trees. The hard landscaping included bespoke precast benches with feature LED light strips and pattern-imprinted concrete paths. All materials were delivered from Derby to site via canal boat.
