Overview This courtyard garden provides the client with an outdoor living space that links seamlessly with their new rear extension and complements the new interior style. The new extension opens fully onto a paved courtyard which is divided into smaller furnished garden rooms designed for relaxing and entertaining. A limited palette of materials creates a cohesive, relaxing environment that the owners love to spend time in. The design combines paving, rendered walls, raised planters and planting within the garden to divide up the limited space and to soften boundary lines. Defined areas for seating, cooking and dining were designed to maximise use of the space and the available sunlight to create a garden that provides year round interest. Subtle lighting to key planting provides added drama while back lit fusion glass slot windows add
a little mood lighting to the moving water between them. A large mirror was incorporated behind layered planting to further enhance the feeling of light and space.
Judges’ comments This contemporary inside/outside courtyard space, designed by the contractor, features beautifully laid paving, structured planting and an attractive water feature. It provides a haven from the hustle and bustle of everyday life for the clients, who are thrilled with the transformation.
